Preflight: Mixer Choir performance becomes surprise fundraiser for Parkinson Foundation

Following the performance of Mixer's two Faulks Ranch Elementary School choirs last night, the school presented Claire with a certificate showing that $220 had been donated by the Junior and Senior choirs to the National Parkinson Foundation in honor of Claire. Parents attending the event then came up onto stage and presented Claire with gift cards from Target, Home Depot and American Express. It was an emotional evening attended by about 750 parents, school faculty and administration, and friends and relatives, including Claire's mother, Ruth (a cancer survivor), and her brother, Eric. The performance by the two choirs received a standing ovation, after which teachers made a presentation to Claire, who received a second ovation as well as gifts from the parents. Mixer is simply overwhelmed by the support and is very appreciative for the donations she received at the end of the night.

On Saturday July 16th, 2005, Claire Mix [about] will make a lone journey to raise funds for a cure to Parkinson Disease. Claire is going to ride a mobility scooter from the Golden Gate Bridge to the California State Capitol, where she will be met by many of her students and friends. It's not only a way to raise funds for The National Parkinson Foundation, but Claire hopes to inspire her students to never give up.

This is a fundraiser, so the most important thing you can do to help is to make a donation. In the United States it is estimated that 60,000 new cases are diagnosed each year, joining the 1.5 million Americans who currently have Parkinson disease.
