Preflight: Mixer thanks Tanya and Gita!

Mixer sent in these photos and this text to have posted!

Tanya and MixerHere are Mixer and Tanya flint on board their scooters! 11 year old Tanya is the child that suggested to Mixer that she do this fundraiser in the first place.

Tanya and her mom, GitaIt was Tanya’s mother, Gita that surprised Mixer with a mobility scooter when she was loosing her ability to walk, and the rest is history.  Gita and Tanya (aka PG) have been pivotal factors in the success of Blaze'n for the Raise'n.  Their volunteerism has gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Mixer and Tanya will ride over the Golden Gate Bridge to start off Mixer’s trip, symbolizing all the work this family has done.  Tanya says she is very excited about going over the bridge with Mixer and riding along the route with Mixer for as long as she can.  It will be a day she will never forget.

It is a terrific piece, available online with a color photo on the main page and two additional photos available by clicking a link under the photo section.

"I'm stronger than I thought I was," said Mix, who is 44. "I want to show people that they can be stronger than they think they are."

Preflight: Mixer Choir performance becomes surprise fundraiser for Parkinson Foundation

Following the performance of Mixer's two Faulks Ranch Elementary School choirs last night, the school presented Claire with a certificate showing that $220 had been donated by the Junior and Senior choirs to the National Parkinson Foundation in honor of Claire. Parents attending the event then came up onto stage and presented Claire with gift cards from Target, Home Depot and American Express. It was an emotional evening attended by about 750 parents, school faculty and administration, and friends and relatives, including Claire's mother, Ruth (a cancer survivor), and her brother, Eric. The performance by the two choirs received a standing ovation, after which teachers made a presentation to Claire, who received a second ovation as well as gifts from the parents. Mixer is simply overwhelmed by the support and is very appreciative for the donations she received at the end of the night.

Preflight: ABOUT CLAIRE MIX

Claire Mix is an elementary school choir teacher in Elk Grove California, affectionately known as The Mixer by her students. Known for her inspirational and exciting teaching methods, Claire is constantly in high demand. She conducts four youth choirs, one of them is called The Mixer Kids. The Mixer Kids are acclaimed for giving benefit concerts for charity. In the last five years they have raised a large amount of funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Singing original music composed by Claire has given The Mixer Kids an original appeal to audiences. After being asked to perform at the inaugural celebration for California Governor Arnold Swarzenegger, The Mixer Kids and Claire Mix’s music has become widely popular.

In the past two years, 44 year old Claire Mix has been dealing with a progressive neurological disease in the Parkinsons family. She has recently acquired a mobility scooter which her students lovingly call The Mixer Mobile. It’s not an unusual sight to see Mixer rolling to a show and giving a young Mixer Kid a ride on her lap to the stage. Mixer can still walk short distances and lives a very full life despite her new limitations. Her students view her no differently than before her body became noticeably symptomatic. It is a great lesson for any child; to see the human being before the chair, crutch, walker or cane.
